THE ROLES OF WOMEN, CHILDREN & AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THE CIVIL WAR

Wisteria Perry, Educator for the Mariner's Museum in Newport News, will make a return visit to the Center, presenting a visual program on the effects of the Civil War on women, children, and African Americans, as well as the contributions of each of those populations. This program is part of the Sesquicentennial observance in Prince George as well as Black History month.
A VISIT FROM "TEDDY" ROOSEVELT

The Heritage Center is pleased to collaborate with Prince George High School in welcoming Joe Wiegand and his wonderful performance as the 26th President of the United States. Wiegand says: "I really enjoy sharing T.R.'s funny stories of life in the White House with six kids and telling anecdotes from his many adventures, from bear hunts to the Panama Canal, from Africa to the Amazon. T. R. is so big and so exciting!" Mr. Wiegand will make day-long appearances for the students at the school on the 6th and 7th with a special performance, followed by a reception, at the Center on Monday evening.
CHARACTERS FROM THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR AND THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT

Students from the Prince George High School Drama Club will interpret and present characters from the American Civil Rights Movement. This program is a collaboration between the High School, the National Park Service, and the Heritage Center and is part of the County Sesquicentennial Observance. A reception will follow.
BEEFSTEAK RAID TOUR

Historian Scott Mauger will lead participants on a guided bus tour of the entire route of Maj. Gen. Wade Hamptons' Beefsteak Raid to capture cattle intended for the Union forces laying siege to Petersburg and Richmond. The tour begins at 9:00 AM at the Heritage Center and includes lunch and snacks. $30.00 per person.
EXPLORING CZECHOSLOVAK MUSICAL HERITAGE AND BUSINESS with Bruce Vlk of the University of Virginia

An interactive discussion in which Mr. Vlk will present his recent research on Prince George area Czech and Slovak musical traditions of years past, and also look into many of the immigrant-owned businesses that used to populate the area. Attendees are encouraged to share their recollections and bring family memorabilia.

Dr. Chris Stevenson of the VA Dept of Historic Resources heads up this collaborative project with PGCHS, Historic Petersburg Foundation & Richard Bland College. He shared pictures and artifacts of this very important regional effort which has yielded valuable information about three cultures of early Prince George.
